How to use a vacuum pump for erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a medical condition in men - during which they have difficulty in getting and keeping an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. A Vacuum Constriction Device (VCD) or vacuum pump in simple terms, helps a man gain an erection for sexual intercourse or masturbation.

Luvhut - the best UK-based sex toy store has prepared this blog to explain: how to use a vacuum pump for erectile dysfunction. Read on to gather insights on how to help yourself gain an erection for sexual intercourse or masturbation.

What is a VCD?

A Vacuum Constriction Device (VCD), also known as a vacuum or penis pump basically consists of the following:

  • A plastic tube - that fits over your penis
  • A constriction band, seal, or ring - that fits around the base of your penis
  • A mechanical (hand-powered), battery-operated, or electric pump - that removes air from the tube, triggering an erection

Vacuum pumps are subject to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Please ensure that your read all the instructions or warnings of the particular product you are using, before using them.

It is very important that you do the essential preparations before using the pump:

  • If you are planning to use a condom, also buy a water-based lubricant that does not degrade or damage latex condoms.
  • If you are intending to use an ED ring - which is said to improve the quality of an erection - you should also keep it close at hand

Below are some of the general instructions on how to use a vacuum pump:

  • Lubricate

Apply a small amount of water-based lubricant over the penis and at the base.  Never use petroleum jelly (Vaseline or similar products) as they could damage the device.

  • Insert

Insert the tube over the penis until it rests upon the skin of the pelvic area. Afterward, move the scrotum into a comfortable position.

  • Suction

Using the hand - or battery/electric-operated control, suck out the air in order to create a vacuum.  Following the creation of the vacuum, blood will start to flow into the penis, causing an erection.

Make sure that you only use the right amount of vacuum pressure needed for your erection, as too much pressure or over-suctioning can cause injury to the penis. If the pump you are using has a limiter, it can prevent such an issue.

  • Wait

An average male can achieve an erection within 30 seconds to seven minutes. If you start to feel any pain or discomfort, please relax by using the release valve.

  • Remove

Positioning one hand around the base of your penis, slide the band off the end of the tube and slowly remove the tube with your other hand. This way you can remove the pump maintaining the erection.

  • Grip

Tighten the grip of your hand around the base of your penis slowly to keep the blood from running down. With the other hand, grab the ED ring and strap it around the base of your penis behind the scrotum.

  • Post use

You should not wear the ED ring or band for any more than 30 minutes as it can cause serious bruises or nerve damage to the penis. If you want the erection to last longer, remove the ring for a certain period of time and repeat the process.

The penis will go back to its normal size once you remove the band. The application of a water-based lubricant could make it easier to remove the band.

Take 60 minutes or more time as a break between the continuous usage of a vacuum pump. It may take a couple of usages to comprehend the proper technique of using the device.

A vacuum pump or any other sex device or toy for that matter should only be used after proper cleaning and sanitization. Strictly following hygienic measures and maintaining open communication with your partner are two prerequisites for having sex and using sex toys.
